3 exciting retail trends to follow

The retail industry moves so fast it’s often hard to keep up. We’ve talked about summer fashion trends to follow and now it’s time to look at some broader industry trends.

These three retail trends will help boost your market visibility this year:

1. Sustainability continues to be a strong motivator

Shoppers continue to respond well to brands that promote sustainability in their business practices. According to VendHQ, consumers identify with brands that are transparent about where their products come from, how they impact the environment and how they spend their money.

You can take advantage of this trend by using eco-friendly retail displays in your shop. For example, our white abstract child mannequins are made from recycled PVC plastic and our beautiful environmentally friendly gift wrap is made from 100 percent recycled paper. Don’t be shy in bragging about your sustainability measures. Shoppers like brands that take the time to explain how their products are sourced.

2. Men control more spending dollars than in previous years

Traditionally, women control more household spending dollars than men, but that’s quickly changing. Retail analyst Christine Sica told Forbes Magazine that men are spending 13 percent more than women, as of December 2016. Likewise, the menswear market is expected to expand by 8.3 percent this year – 1.5 times more than women’s clothing. Retailers should definitely consider bringing men’s fashion products closer to the front of the store. Bring those display racks forward and incorporate more male mannequins in your overall retail design strategy. Don’t forget to adjust your scent marketing strategy, as well. A scent system with a neutral or masculine scent, such as Tobacco Tonka, could help shoppers feel more relaxed at your store.

3. Convenience will drive sales

Convenience might seem like an easy buzzword to throw around, but it deserves your full attention. Think about the other shopping options available to your target consumer. Are they easier to use than what you can offer? If you answered in the affirmative, it’s time to do some brainstorming. Industry leader Mara Devitt told Shopify that the rise of “push-button” services has rapidly impacted shoppers’ expectations. Your customers can press a button on their phone and order a taxi immediately – they expect similar services in retail. Gift packaging is one way to differentiate your brand from the competition. Shoppers appreciate the convenience of a one-stop-shop, and you can gain additional revenue from offering this premium service. Need more advice to optimize your retail design strategy?
